Third Time Lucky for Robert!
Robert Wainwright’s dream of a career in dentistry is still a reality after passing his dental nursing exam after two previous attempts and achieving his Apprenticeship in Dental Nursing.
Robert, who is 19 years old, is employed as a dental nurse in a dental practice in Liverpool where he is a valued member of staff “I have gained full time employment and I am classed as a valued member of the dental team at my practice”. In fact, Robert has recently been recognised as dental nurse of the month within his workplace and is now supporting other members of staff “I have started to help new trainees within my practice by mentoring them which I feel helps them a lot as they can see how far I have come”.
To reach his goals, Robert has had to show commitment and has put in a lot of effort “I have also attended extra sessions at Alder Training to help me with my numeracy and literacy skills and gain my key skills in both of these areas”. Robert recognises the benefits of this work “the extra work has paid off because my skills have greatly improved and I now work on reception and deal with cash payments and direct patient contact”.
Angela Owens, the Head of the Dental Nursing department at Alder Training, recognises the distance Robert has travelled “Robert came to Alder Training unsure of his career goals, very immature and with numerous personal and social issues. With a lot of help and support Robert has overcome these issues and become 100% committed to the training programme. Robert has attended two extra night classes per week whilst working full-time and looking after his Nan. He has gained employment and is considered as one of the most experienced, hard working, mature members of staff at the Dental Practice and an example to others”.
We have recognised Robert’s achievements and have nominated him for the Apprentice of the Year awards which will take place in London later this year.
